Methods to Help Your Toddler Settle into Nursery

What can be done to help prepare your child? Here’s a guide on how to help your toddler settle into nursery:

Communicate with Staff

Before you send your toddler to nursery, make sure you talk to the staff. Talk to them about the child’s likes, dislikes, hobbies and anything that you and your toddler like to do together.

The better the bond that the staff creates with your child, the easier it will be for your child to settle in.

Understanding Why Your Toddler is Upset

When introduced to a new idea or a new place, children can feel unsettled and upset. Separation anxiety is at its peak when toddlers are 8 to 9 months old. Most of the time toddlers cry because they want to show that they’re upset about having to be separated from their parents. Understand this and try to talk to your toddler and explain how much fun they’ll have there and that you’ll always come back to collect them.

Build Excitement Around the Idea

Talk to your child and introduce positive imagery of what it will be like to go to nursery.

If you know any other close friends who are attending nursery Harrow or Nursery Mill Hill, then have your toddlers go on playdates so that they are used to the idea of going to a fun place together.

Put on Your Best Smile

No matter how anxious or upset you may feel about sending your little ones to nursery, try not show it in front of your child. If they see you fretting, or trying to hold back tears, chances are they will get upset as well.

Always drop your children off at nursery with a positive attitude.
